ESG Senior Coordinator

The purpose of this role is to act as an internal consultant and be responsible for the co-ordination and collaboration with key stakeholders to ensure Hanley Energy is both compliant and where possible leading the way in its commitment to ESG standards and requirements.  You will share your knowledge and track current performance and in consultation with others ensure any relevant policies, procedures, and improved ways of working are adopted. You will review and appraise the operations of the company in light of current ESG regulatory requirements, required policies and internationally recognised best practices.

As an internal consultant you will define the steps necessary to address any compliance gaps where they arise and identify opportunities to add value proactively and contribute to long-term environmental impact and sustainability agenda. The ESG Lead Consultant will formulate recommendations and requirements for action and incorporate these into applicable documentation and action / project plans.

To be successful in this role, you should have an attention to detail, a collaborative approach and a passion for ESG as a key driver of business success.

Key Result Areas/Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The role is responsible for co-ordinating and collaborating with others in relation to all the elements of ESG regulations and best practices, whilst monitoring the performance of the business.
  • Provide technical expertise on critical issues related to environmental and sustainability impact assessment and on sustainability risks in the design, production, implementation, and supervision of operations taking into consideration best practice / industry standards.
  • Collaborate with procurement as to the environmental and sustainability impact of our supply chain, seeking ways to improve our standard and where possible help identify vendors who meet ESG standards.
  • Create Standard Operating Procedures where necessary
  • Co-ordinate and in some cases conduct ESG due diligence audits/checks for the company across all functions where adherence to ESG standards fall within their remit for example IT and HR.
  • Identify all critical potential impacts and risks and ensure that their magnitude and significance are well understood by the senior leadership.
  • Ensure that the Company understands the applicable policies, guidelines, and project-specific requirements, and has the necessary commitment and capacity to manage impacts and/or risks adequately and are supported by mechanisms that facilitate implementation
  • Report on and disseminate good practices and generated knowledge.
  • Track areas of ESG for the business and seek ways to make improvements
  • Scope out specific projects, propose and get board approval prior to initiating any project work.
  • Ensure the business has the correct information available in advance of client engagements and any board action relating to ESG disclosure, sustainability programs, reporting, and research.
  • When asked, provide advisory ESG related information to senior leaders.
  • Create guidelines, checklists, policies, procedures, and other related program content, to align with best practice and frameworks, and enable the business to carry out and improve what it does.
  • Draft narrative content for sustainability reports, trends reports, and other communications.
  • Provide advisory support in professional design and layout of reports and communications.
  • Lead or support qualitative benchmarking studies on corporate sustainability programs, goals, disclosures, performance, and rankings among companies, with corresponding data collection and analysis for client sustainability reporting, industry research, and data management needs.
  • Support companywide collaborative initiatives through project management, technical advisory, and coordination and engagement for meetings, calls, workshops, trainings, presentations, and events.
  • Create, update, and utilise project plans, reporting critical paths, tracking templates and data platforms for both processes and performance data for business use whilst incorporate the streamlining of various sustainability criteria and client deadlines.
  • Build and establish relationships with clients and industry contacts.
  • Perform various administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in sustainable business, environmental studies, business improvement, or a transferrable degree
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an ESG role
  • Industry knowledge and experience is a plus
  • Additional professional certification will be an added advantage
  • Hands-on experience with government bodies/ regulators re policies, regulations and monitoring
  • Self-motivated and experienced in transition situations where there is rapid change
  • Capability to thrive in a fast-paced and highly demanding environment
  • ESG reporting and/or advisory work with frameworks and ratings directly in an internal function within a company or rating, or as a consultant or industry organization
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)  
  • Strong communications, writing (in English), analytical research, and organizational skills
  • Willingness to travel when required.
