Every week brings its own little victories with my team in Switchgear.
Some days we are tackling tricky problems. Other days were laughing at our own creative solutions. But every week, there’s a moment that makes me proud. The teamwork, humour and energy we share on the floor, even on the busiest days, feels like a win.
My first impression was being struck by how ambitious and fast moving everything felt, but also how supportive people were. Coming into a male-dominated industry, I expected to have to prove myself every day, and yes it still happens, but the culture here really values skill and hard work – no matter who you are – and that’s what stuck with me.

If I could give one piece of advice to someone starting in Hanley Energy, it would be to ‘back yourself’. It can feel intimidating walking into a space where you might not look like everyone else, but your perspective and skills are valuable. Speak up, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to get stuck in. People notice effort and confidence.
What my co-workers might find surprising about me is that I love Pilates. It keeps me strong and it helps me keep calm – especially on our hectic floor in switchgear.
I’m excited about the innovations we’re driving in automation and monitoring. It feels like we’re shaping the future of energy, and I’m proud to play a role in that.
