Hanley Energy has completed the development and testing of a new UL 891 range of switchgear to meet the demand of our clients in the US. Testing took place in 2023 and resulted in a UL 891 range of switchgear up to 5,000A with a 3-cycle withstand up to 65kA. We also carried out 60 cycle withstand tests at 65kA on all our arrangements.
With successful testing completed on the UL 891 range, we are already preparing to fulfill multiple UL Type 1 and UL Type 3R switchgear lineup orders from one of our major US customers. The first order lineup Customer Factory Acceptance Test (CFAT) was successfully completed in May. These switchboards are ready to be shipped for delivery, with the next lineups already in manufacture.
Exceptional performance, tested to the latest standards
Hanley Energy entered the Low Voltage switchgear market in 2022 to satisfy customer requirements and facilitate company growth targets by offering a complete turnkey solution that complements our transformers, MV packages, EPMS systems, and UPS packages.
“Rising to the challenge of developing and testing an entirely new UL 891 Switchboard range to meet our customer requirements within a very short timeframe is what our R&D team thrive on,” says Jerome McEvoy, Global Director of Low Voltage Products.
The new, best-in-class Hanley Energy Modular Low Voltage Switchgear (HEMLVS) solution is:
- Fully developed in-house.
- Tested to the latest international standards, eg. IEC EN 61439-2.
- Built to cover current ratings up to 4,000A with fault withstand ratings up to 100kA for 1 second.
- Presently being developed to extend the current rating up to 6,300A with testing scheduled for later this year.
More choice delivered faster
As part of our commitment to product development and to speed up the testing process, Hanley Energy built our own in-house temperature rise test lab with test current ratings up to 11,000A. This test lab has been certified as an Intertek Satellite test lab which enables Hanley Energy to carry out both IEC 61439 and UL 891-certified temperature rise tests in-house, significantly reducing the reliance on third-party lab schedules.
All Hanley Energy’s manufacturing plants are UL-certified and inspected regularly.
To date both our IEC and UL product range has been tested using Air Circuit Breakers (ACB) and Moulded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCB) from ABB. We are presently working on the design of test switchboards to carry out IEC EN 61439-2 testing using ACBs and MCCBs from Schneider, with a view to completing UL 891 testing in Q1 2025. This will then allow Hanley Energy to offer our clients options of breaker manufacturers for their projects.
All circuit breakers offered by Hanley Energy have a 100% current rating, ultimately allowing our customers to save on space with a switchgear solution that is tailored exactly to their needs. As it’s a modular system with a range of cable-entry and busbar options, we can give our customers exactly what they want at any stage of the design and installation process.
Our switchgear is a flexible, resilient, sustainable solution:
- Maintenance free
- Pressure-bolted busbar system joints
- Life expectancy of 20+ years
- Easy updating of parts without changing the core system
- Maximum efficiency, minimum components, and footprint
